| On July 12, 2006,
we sadly report the loss of our colleague, partner and brother, Dr.
Jose Alvarez Jr.. His death was peacefully experienced at home
surrounded by his beloved family. He is survived by his wife Cristina,
daughter Vanessa, sons Joey and Richard, son-in law David,
granddaughter Ava, brother Dr. Frank Alvarez and his mother and father
. "Pepe" approached his illness in the same manner that he approached
that of his patient's; with sword and shield in hand and ready to do
battle until the end. Pepe
came to us in 1985 full of fire and vigor with certain goals in mind.
As the first Board Certified Vascular Surgeon in South Florida he
raised the bar on the quality of vascular surgery practiced in the
region, as he demanded of others only what he demanded of himself. His
command and retention of the vascular literature always made others
stop and listen when he spoke. With time, he became a respected
speaker locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, and
eventually held the presidencies of the Florida Vascular Society and
the South Florida Society for Vascular Surgery, as well as memberships
in multiple other Vascular Societies.
Pepe, you taught us in life so
much while healthy, yet it pales when compared to what you taught us
during your illness and awareness of life's end. You stood as a man to
your entire family, friends and colleagues.
You
will be missed but never forgotten. |
